How do we balance the need to have goals, work toward them, while not getting so caught up in thinking about some better future state that we don't live in the moment?

Nature/Nurture

Reminded again in Susan Cain's "Quiet" of identical twin research that suggests temperament is roughly half genetic, when looking at a group of people. So it does shape a lot but certainly room for nature's impact and free will. She suggests that introverts might be more influenced by parents.
